Penny Stopforth

BSocSci, BSocSci (Hons), MA Clinical Psychology

I am a registered Clinical Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. I graduated from Rhodes University with a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology (Cum Laude) and completed my clinical training at Fort England Psychiatric Hospital. I currently run my private practice in the Atlantic Seaboard, Cape Town. Here, I offer individual psychotherapy to both men and women, as well as to adolescents and couples, with a variety of presenting problems.

I am primarily a psychodynamic orientated therapist, who prioritises developing an authentic and collaborative therapeutic relationship as the vehicle to promote therapeutic change and psychological wellbeing.

I also have a special interest in forensic work, with experience in the Maximum Security Unit at Fort England Psychiatric Hospital. I currently form part of the child criminal capacity assessment team at Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital.
